Spring Track on the Horizon

Spring track is right around the corner and the boys and girls teams both look to improve off their successful seasons last year.

The boys turn a new page this year and turn to a younger core to lead the charge that features Jason Fisher, transfer Darlington Davidheiser, and many other great athletes. Despite the youth, the boy's team will have 3 big returners to turn to and look for guidance. Jaydin Carter (Jr.) leads the sprints and relay teams and hopes to make a splash this year at districts in the 100M dash and 200M dash. Ricky Whitmoyer (Sr.) pole vaulted 13-0 feet this winter in the PTFCA league meets and looks to get to Shippensburg and show off his stuff. Ricky will also lead a freshman based distance team that looks to improve off of a great cross country season this fall. In the throws, Shane McGarry (Jr.) returns for his third go around in the shot, disc, and jav. Shane led the team in all three throws and after spending time in the weight room, hopes to get to Shippensburg and help his fellow throwers in the field.

This years girl's team acquires a ninth grade class that featured almost a dozen county medalists last year in junior high including Ella Ehlert, Averie Foster, and Chienne Woody. In addition to the freshman class, the girls return with a solid junior class featuring 3 girls who had great showings at the district championships last year. Faith Kehinde (Jr.) showed off her versatility last season running anything from the 100 to the 800. She thrived in the 400M and ran under a minute quite a few times. Another talented individual, Blair Eckel (Jr.), returns with her sights set on a county title. In dual meets, Blair competed in a variety of events including the long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, and 4x400. However, she returns as the county favorite this year in her best event, the javelin, with a chance to eclipse the school record. Alongside Blair and Faith will be state qualifier Symone Foster (Jr.). Symone, fresh off a semifinal performance at the indoor state championships, looks to defend her county title and return to districts and states in the 100M hurdles. Last Year, Symone was also a big part of the team in the long jump and 4x100.

With spring right around the corner, the track team continues their preseason workouts this week in anticipation of the first day of the season Monday, March 6th.
